Located
in what is known locally as the Pays Montmorillonais, we are centrally located
to explore the neighbouring region of the Charente Maritime with its famous
port city of La Rochelle, its long stretches of sandy beaches, the oyster
beds of Oléron, and the world-renowned châteaux of the Loire
valley.
We are situated just to the south of the Brenne valley, the region of 1000
lakes. This is a magnificent area to explore both by car and on foot. There
are many attractions throughout the region for all tastes.
Forty minutes drive away is the historic city of Poitiers. Nearby is "Futuroscope",
the "Park of the Moving Image", which has an ever-changing array
of superb cinematic exhibits and makes an excellent day out. In the summer
a spectacular laser and firework display celebrating the history of film and
cinema caps a fascinating day out.
At La Chaussée and Archigny you can discover the ligne Acadienne. This
area has many links to the region of Acadie in Canada. The acadienne odyssey
is said to have started with the first groups leaving for Acadie from the
Poitou only to return when forced out by the English in 1773. The ligne Acadienne
attempts to reconstruct this part of Poitevine history with a 38 typical houses
of the period and a working farm.
Only 1 hr away is the Valle des Singe. This is a unique opportunity to walk
among a range of apes and monkeys, some up close. Set in beautiful gardens
and with excellent facilities this makes an excellent day out for children
and adults alike.
Within 30kms one can find tennis courts, canoe/kayak white water runs, horse
riding, wind surfing, sailing, golf and boating. We are in a great location
to get away from the routine of daily life and relax and enjoy the true charm
and beauty of a part of untouched France.
The beauty of the Loire Valley is just a 90-minute drive away. The world renowned
châteaux of Chambord, Chaumont, Villandry, Blois, and Ussé, which
is also referred to as "Sleeping Beauty's castle", can easily be
explored from our central base.
The
beaches of the Atlantic coast and the historic naval town of La Rochelle are
only two hours away.
It
is impossible to do more than introduce the attractions that are available
for day trips. We are always available to help with suggestions for all types
of interests and levels of activity. Contact us for more information.
